AllAboutSymbian and Symbian-Guru have recently reported on the availability of OxyCube from Oxygen Software, which is basically a replacement for the default PC Suite-like programs that come bundled with your phone.
Oxygen have actually had such software for quite a while, but they're now rebranding it to OxyCube and hope that it will replace PC Suite. It doesn't only work with S60 phones, but with a lot more, check compatibility on their site.
However.
As Symbian Guru points out, this all sounds well. No one quite loves PC Suite (I mean the Nokia product here), and it's only available for Windows anyway.
But.
$100? Are you kidding???
So I, as the smartphone enthusiast that I am, pay $700-800 for my phone. And then comes Oxygen Software who want me to pay another hundred bucks for...what the PC Suite already does for free (granted it doesn't do all things well, it's rather un-user friendly and has a lot of bugs)! Interesting business model.
Do note that the hundred-dollar-pricetag is apparently only for the N95, as...(get ready for this one!)... the pricing is different for different phones. And who'd have thought, the more expensive the phone, the more expensive OxyCube gets!
Why am I even writing about this?
OxyCube wants to replace PC Suite, BUT...
